EVELETH - If you're a Northlander who's craving some Texas barbecue, you don't have to fly south. You just have to drive up to Eveleth.
When you're driving up HIghway 53 you're going to want to stop at this drive-in.
It's a true Texas barbecue in Northern Minnesota.
"We get people from Texas coming up here 'oh you really have it' and they try it and go 'Yup. That is Texas,'" owner Lee Reimer said.
Lee Reimer and his wife have owned K&B Cafe and BBQ in Eveleth for more than eight years, and have perfected the way they serve barbecue.
"I mean it's all from scratch. I make my own rub, and we use a wood that comes from West Texas only, and those are the only ingredients to our product," Reimer said.
Their barbecue pit can hold more than 400 lbs of meat at any given time, and they use it everyday.
The pit can even smoke your Thanksgiving turkey if you just call in your order.
However, K&B isn't only known for their barbecue.
They sell 30-40,000 pasties a year.
"We use very fresh ingredients and top of the line products to make our pasties. You know, we don't cut any corners with this," Reimer said.
K&B is open year round, and it's fine to drive up even in the winter.
They also have a dining room that seats up to 50 people.
"Lotta people don't even believe we have a dining room, they think this is our house," Reimer said.
They even keep up with the drive-in feel with their decorations inside.
The walls are filled with pictures of classic cars that have actually been to K&B.
In fact, they have two car shows a year.
The first is the Tuesday after Memorial Day, and the other is the Tuesday after Labor Day.
