The John Beargrease sled dog marathon will have a new starting point this year.
The race will now begin at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Two Harbors instead of at the quarry several miles north of town.
The new starting point will add about eight miles to the nearly 400-mile sled dog race and will allow much better access for spectators.
The Beargrease opening ceremonies will also move to Two Harbors for the first time this year and will be held at the American Legion hall.
"We've had a lot of involvement from the Two Harbors chamber and from the business community and from Lake County. This is just one more step of them saying, 'come on, we love this. Beargrease, middle of winter, northern Minnesota, this is what we're about," says Beargrease spokesman Jason Rice.
Registration for the Beargrease is now open. The race will begin January 29th in Two Harbors.
