DULUTH, Minn. -

Public services, like local firefighters have to stay on the job even over the holidays.

While those people can't be with their loved ones, they say the job is well worth it.
"You have to provide the service every day, even on holidays," said Jon Ries. "It can be tough being away, but I love my job. I love keeping everyone safe, and someone's got to be there to answer the phone when it rings."

The Olive Garden in Duluth decided to say thank you to the local firefighters by providing a free lunch, delivered right to the station.

"We really appreciate them being here, and being able to help us when we are in need,"said Tina Makitalo.

More than 800 Olive Garden restaurants provided meals to firefighters across the country.
