St. Cloud's Mayor and state leaders met today with the off duty law enforcement officer who intervened on Saturday night to save lives.
Law enforcers in the Northland talked today about how training and awareness can be vital when dealing with dangerous situations like the mall stabbing.
The Superior Police Department is specially trained on how to respond to emergency situations but they also want to encourage members of the public to think about their own safety and to help them out in spotting trouble.
One of the most important things Superior officers recommend, is to always be aware of your surroundings. If something seems off, report it to local law enforcement immediately.
Next, if you do find yourself in an emergency situation, try to create as much distance as possible between you and where the incident is happening.
Paul Winterscheidt, a Patrol Sergeant, said "Our police officers are well trained to respond to those situations. They respond very rapidly and neutralize the threat as quickly as possible."
Superior Police don't want you to be afraid of going out in public because of isolated events like the St. Cloud stabbings but they do stress, paying attention to what is going on around you.
Meanwhile, the Miller Hill Mall released the following statement Monday:
"Our thoughts are with all who were affected by the incident in St. Cloud. Safety and security is always our top priority at Miller Hill Mall. We continually assess any potential threats and work with our security company and local law enforcement to make appropriate adjustments."
