DULUTH, Minn. -

This month many Northlanders will be focusing on helping each other and sharing how you can prevent suicide.

September is Suicide Prevention Month.

TXT4LIFE is a crisis hotline available for those having thoughts of suicide.

It's confidential to help someone feel like they have somewhere to go if they're feeling low.

"Sometimes people find it hard to reach out for help, especially if they're not diagnosed with depression or anxiety," said Meghann Levitt, Northeast Minnesota TXT4LIFE coordinator.

Death by suicide happens about every 12 minutes in the United States and there are about 42,000 deaths per year due to suicide.

"It's really important for families who might be worried about somebody to reach out and find a service that might work for them," continued Levitt.

If you need help, or know of someone who does, you can text "life" to 61222.
