SUPERIOR, Wis. -

Pizza lovers in Superior rejoice!

An old local favorite is back and they’re open for business.

Sammy’s Pizza has been a Northland staple since the first one opened in Hibbing in 1954.

The former location in Superior at the Elbo Room closed two and a half years ago.

The new one on Tower Avenue opened its doors at four o’clock this afternoon, where they are already taking orders by phone or over the counter.

Staff members have been working long hours to get ready for the big day.

“We’re just excited to open after all this time,” said Pete Vavrosky, Head of Operations. “We shot for August 1 for the opening day and we got pushed back because of the storms and stuff like that. So finally we’re going to be coming back tonight.”

Vavrosky says he and his staff are ready for the big crowds they’re expecting all weekend.

“We’re there,” he said. “We got our last delivery coming in today. Everything’s prepped up and ready to go. A lot of sleepless nights trying to go over the menu. We’re good.”
Sammy’s will remain open until 2:30am late tonight.
