DULUTH, Minn. -

The American Red Cross will soon celebrate 100 years of serving the community.

The Minnesota region is comprised of five community chapters and serves 5.2 million people across Minnesota and parts of western Wisconsin.

They are introducing a new phone app that will alert users of emergencies nearby or emergencies that are near their loved ones.

The app is free and officials hope it will help people to be more resilient.

Dan Williams, the Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Minnesota, said "A big part of the Red Cross is helping but a lot is about making people resilient and preventing bad things and one way of doing that is letting people know when there are emergencies in their area."

You can download the app now on your phone by going to your app store.
