DULUTH, Minn. - -

The League of Women Voters Duluth held an event Monday night to recognize women in the area who have held or ran for public office.

It was also a chance for women interested in running for public office to talk to those women who have come before them.

Congressman Rick Nolan even made a surprise visit and spoke to the group about the importance of women in politics.

The League of Women Voters does not endorse political candidates, but hold events throughout the year to educate local voters about who is running for public office.

“We as an organization want people to go to the polls on November 8th,” said Chelsea Helmer, Vice President of the League of Women Voters Duluth. “We want people to vote, but we also want them to be an active participant in our democracy. It’s really important for people to be informed and engaged.”

The organization has produced a regional voter guide with information about each candidate running for public office.
