On Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 11:56 p.m., Hermantown Police were dispatched to the 4800 block of Oak Ridge Drive in Hermantown to a reported drive by shooting. Officers arrived just after midnight, and during the initial investigation, officers determined that several shots had been fired from a vehicle at a group of individuals who were standing in the yard of 4833 Oak Ridge Drive.
A 20-year-old male from Superior, Wisconsin, was struck by one of the bullets and was later transported to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth with non-life threatening injuries.
The initial investigation revealed two vehicles were involved int he shooting; a silver car bearing Texas plates an an older, dark colored Chevrolet SUV with a silver colored push bumper. It was further reported that both vehicles drove by the residence and that the shots came from an older dark colored Chevrolet SUV.
An attempted to located was aired to all area squads and officers later located the silver car crossing the bridge into Superior.
A high-risk traffic stop was initiated by officers and one adult male, age 20, was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the Douglas County Jail.
The SUV was later located in the City of Duluth and was towed from the scene.
Late Sunday, September 25, 2016, officers executed a search warrant at 628 N 58th Avenue W in Duluth where three juvenile males and one adult male were taken into custody. One juvenile male was released after questioning, and the two other juvenile males ages 15 and 16, were booked into the Arrowhead Juvenile Center and an adult male, age 47, was booked into the St. Louis County Jail.
Authorities believe the 47-year-old man fired the gun and is currently awaiting charges.
Hermantown Deputy Chief, Shawn Padden says, "The community is a safe community to live in. We don't have this kind of problem in Hermantown, so I just want to let people know that we live in a very safe community."
This incident originated at the "wall" on Skyline Parkway in Duluth and apparently stemmed from an argument between some of the participants who had past altercations both in person and via social media.
The following are requested charges:
Attempted 2nd Degree Murder - Felony
Aid-Abet 2nd Degree Assault - Felony
Drive-by-Shooting - Felony
Possession of a Handgun by a prohibited person - Felony
2nd Degree Assault - Felony
The investigation is currently on-going at this time.
