The Saint Louis County board approved adding two sheriffs deputy positions to serve as school officers.
The officers will work in schools in Cherry, South Ridge, Northwoods and Tower–Soudan schools.
Commissioners voted four to three in favor of this.
The two officers will work full time to combat drug issues and crime prevention and they will also be there to be mentors for the kids.
Steve Sallee, the Superintendent, said "These officers will be in the lunchroom eating and getting to know the kids so its really more about student connection more than law enforcement side of this."
The officers will start this coming week and they will have a three year contract.
