DULUTH, Minn. -

Pages of history were turning as awards were handed out on Wednesday at the Duluth Depot.

The first annual Olga Walker Memorial Awards ceremony took place at the Duluth Depot’s Great Hall.

Those honored include Gilbert Harries, Mary Aufderheide, and Charles House.

Harries explained why he’s so passionate about giving back to his local library.

"It's a means of providing access to information for the people who can't have computers or don't have computers,” Harries said.

Attendees of the event also had the chance to learn about the early history of the Duluth Public Library, and future plans for the Duluth Library Foundation.

"I think it'll be more computers, and making computers available, but I think books will remain an indispensable particularly for people who are doing more thoughtful research,” Harries said, thinking toward the future of the Library.

The Duluth Library Foundation was founded back in 1990 to help support the Library and to promote literacy and learning in our community.
