DULUTH, Minn. -

More than $8 million of federal money has been awarded to build a veterans cemetery in Duluth.

The grant money comes from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It will provide burial service for about 18,000 veterans and eligible family members.

The location will be near Pike Lake. The grant will fund the development of nineteen acres.

"Many of these older widows are not able to travel great distances or don't have any means to get down to visit their loved ones who are interred at state cemeteries so this is a beautiful thing for all parties involved," said John Marshall, Captain of the Duluth Honor Guard.

Organizers expect six military honors will be performed a day when the cemetery is complete.
