SUPERIOR - With the spring time change, firefighters want to remind residents to make another change that could save their lives; changing the batteries in your smoke detectors.

They recommend that you change the batteries in your smoke alarms twice a year so when you change your clock, it's an easy way to remember to change your smoke detector batteries.

"The smoke detector is a life saving device and it won't function if it doesn't have batteries that are working," said Arthur Gil de Lamadrid of the Superior Fire Department.

The most commonly cited cause of non-working smoke alarms is worn or missing batteries.
