DULUTH - "Tea parties," were held all across the nation Wednesday. But, not to instigate a break away from British rule. This 'tea' is an acronym for "taxed enough already."
In the Twin Ports, hundreds turned out castigating corporate bailouts in an event some call partisan and others call American.
"We're giving debt to my children and my grandchildren and those not yet born.
Do you want that, America?" screamed one speaker.
An estimated 700 people packed the back of the DECC fed up with federal bailouts in the trillions of dollars.
The message was the same in superior.
"This is a real event with real taxpayers that are hurting," said one attendee.
Purported to be a non-partisan effort, the parties were promoted by a Washington conservative non-profit led by former republican house majority leader Dick Armey.
And the Superior party was right beneath the office window of democratic U.S representative Dave Obey.
Obey representative, Ellis Bachman fired back. Saying, quote...
"People arguing against the measures to fix the economy are like a drunkard arguing against detox."
More tempered in his comments, Duluth city councilor, Jeff Anderson it will be possible to pay back the debt, citing President Clinton's work with the republicans in the 90's.
"We need help," says Anderson. "We need to be borrowing, to be infusing our economy with cash and get banks lending again and get consumers spending again."
But, that very idea is what many of the people out Wednesday were rallying against.
"Stop spending," was the simple message from one protestor.
