TWO HARBORS -Mother’s Day is one of the top gift-giving retail holidays, after christmas, but Saturday, coupled with another event, made for an extra busy day for local stores in Two Harbors.
“Mother’s Day is probably our busiest because it’s a whole week long,” Jim Shogren, owner of Anderson’s Greenhouse, said.
Not only were people out and about shopping for the perfect gift for mom…
“I found a really nice heart necklace that was really pretty and I think she’ll like it,” customer Judie Ernest said.
But also, 18 businesses along the North Shore were promoting shopping locally.
“It’s important for local shopping for small businesses because it’s hard for them to compete with larger big retailers,” Delores Jackson, of the Sawtooth Mountain Trading Post, said.
The Route 61 Merchants Shop Local, Welcome Spring Event, had in-store specials and drawings for merchant dollars that can be spent at any one of the participating stores.
“We have a drawing for a gift basket that we’ll be giving away at 4p.m. Also, there will be two $25 gift ceriticates,” Jackson said.
Both Mother’s Day and the Welcome Spring Event might have brought some more people to the stores, but Jim said, community support can also be seen all year long.
“Thankfully, Anderson’s Greenhouse we have a lot of local support and we have really a good customer base,” Shogren said.
