Wisconsin bill requires notice when cop killers released
MADISON, Wis. (AP) Police departments and collective bargaining units would have to be notified when cop killers seek parole or are released from prison under a bill passed by the Wisconsin state Assembly.
Notice would also have to be given if the convicted killer escapes from prisons, seeks a pardon, is placed into a community setting or is released from a mental health facility.
The department on which the slain officer served would have to be given notice in addition to the head of the collective bargaining unit.
The measure passed the full Assembly on Thursday on a voice vote. It must also pass the Senate and be signed by the governor before becoming law.
