Duluth, MN, USA -
DULUTH – Duluth is getting more than a million dollars in grants to clean up contaminated areas in the city. The two grants are coming from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. They'll create nearly 100 jobs and millions in economic impact. The first grant will clean up a brown site in Chester Park. It'll be turned into a space for retail, gardens and rental housing. The second grant will clean up the Lafarge Cement site and turn it into a mixed–use waterfront project that'll include a hotel, restaurant, specialty shops and condos. "Projects like this from the state will put people to work,” said Duluth Mayor Don Ness. "We'll see new investments and folks will see that our community will respond positively." The projects are expected to be completed in two and a half years.
