DULUTH-Generous donors across the country have given more than $100,000 to the Lake Superior Zoo after the Northland Flash Flood, staff said.And as repairs continue a slew of other fundraisers are in the works.14 animals died during the June storm but administrators are working quickly to fill empty exhibits.The newest addition is a jeanette - an animal from the mongoose family. This "moving forward" will be supported in part by money collected by no less than four events during the next two weeks."Tomorrow we've got an art fair and a silent auction of a whole bunch of art," "Artists on the Loose" coordinator Jamie Rabold said."The wife and I, we were driving past here the day of the flood and i almost cried on the way home because of how bad it was. And I said to myself 'well, I've got to do something for the zoo'," Rabold said.Donated artwork will be sold next to the zoo's entrance to directly benefit the zoo. Development coordinator with the LSZ, Anita Skutevic, said anything is appreciated."All of the efforts that are going on are coordinated by people in the community that were compelled to do something that helps the zoo. We've got a long list of activities that are happening between now and next weekend," Skutevic said.That includes a 70's Revival Concert at the Duluth Heights Community Center going on Saturday afternoon from Noon to 8 p.m.Then on Wednesday at the Clyde Iron Works the highly publicized "Zoo Aid" will run from 3 p.m. into the evening for a concert."I can tell you that our community loves their zoo. Bottom line – they want their zoo," Skutevic said.
