Largest UMD Class Ever Graduates on Saturday

DULUTH-University of Minnesota-Duluth Seniors were not able to enjoying all of beautiful weather Saturday had to offer. But they were walking on sunshine after walking for graduation.More than 1,400 students received diplomas in front of a packed house at Amsoil Arena.The commencement speaker was Dr. Andrea Schokker. She helped create UMD's civil Engineering Department.The program's first class graduated during the ceremony. "My choice to choose that engineering degree turned out to be a very good one for me and it brought me where I am today,” Schokker said.“There have been many challenges along the way, but also that support that allowed me to become department head here and to have this position as Executive Vice Chancellor which is absolutely something that I never would have guessed sitting in your seats when I was back in Missouri many years ago,” she continued. The ceremony hosted the largest group of graduates in the school's history.
