WASHINGTON, DC
WASHINGTON, DC - You may soon be getting a text message from the federal government. A new program began Monday – a partnership between the government and wireless carriers – to notify people of dangerous weather and other emergencies. The wireless emergency alerts service is free and consumers don't have to sign up. You'll get a text on your phone if there's an emergency in your area such as a tornado, flash flood, hurricane, blizzard or other disaster.
