Duluth, MN, USA -
DULUTH - The fresh powder and the upcoming cold snap is part of a perfect recipe out on the slopes for skiers and snowboarders but many people realize it is not the safest sport. Spirit Mountain is one of the recreation areas across the country focusing on National Safety Awareness Week while promoting campaigns and hosting contests to keep kids safe. “Certainly more kids are wearing helmets on the slopes, that’s a really encouraging thing for us. I'd say probably 60-70 percent of the users have helmets on so that’s an important first step as well,” Renee Mattson, an employee at Spirit Mountain, said. Fourth, fifth and sixth graders are taking part in poster coloring contest throughout the rest of the month.
