DULUTH -
Monday brought a lot of noise of jack-hammers and chain saws on one popular Duluth road, but neighbors were not minding it at all.Crews are busting up bad sidewalks that were put in back in 2010.The problem is on Woodland Avenue from Saint Marie Street to Arrowhead Road. For reasons unknown, the sidewalks started to deteriorate. The city and contractor taking the past two years to reach a financial agreement to fix the problem."Well, obviously with the amount of walk you see here, that is not easy to come to an agreement with, and I was real impressed with the contractor. I thought they stepped up to the plate," said Patrick Mlakar, senior engineering specialist for the City of Duluth.Homeowners will not get an assessment fee for the new sidewalks, which should be completed by the end of the week.
