Northland College Volleyball Coach Resigns
PRESS RELEASE - NORTHLAND COLLEGE ATHLETICS
Northland College Director of Athletics Steve Wammer announced today that head Volleyball Coach Shelly Roiger has resigned in order to relocate to Canton, New York with her family. Roiger coached four seasons at Northland.
"Shelly did an outstanding job in her four years here," commented Wammer. "She brought the program back to respectability. In addition to the successes her teams experienced on the court, her student athletes were high quality people off the court."
Roiger took over the Northland College program in 2005 having previously served as an assistant at Carleton College and St. Olaf College both in Northfield, Minn. Inheriting a program that had only three wins in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, she led the team to its first ever UMAC Tournament Championship in 2007.
"My decision to leave Northland College was a very painful one. I have had the pleasure of working with a tremendous group of young women who will be tremendously successful in their future endeavors - both on and off the court." Roiger commented, "I wish them nothing but the best for this fall and for the future seasons to come."
An interim coach for the 2009 season will be named by the end of the week according to Wammer.
