Profile
Jon Ellis is the Assistant News Director and Producer of FOX 21 News at 9. His responsibilities include news writing, video editing, and working with reporters and behind- the-scenes staff to get the newscast on the air.
Ellis grew up in the Twin Cities area but quickly escaped to the Northland after graduating from Osseo Sr. High School in 1995. He attended UW-Superior, where he majored in Business Administration but spent most of his time at KUWS/Wisconsin Public Radio. After graduating from UWS in 1999, Ellis worked at a pair of radio stations then located in Milltown (WLMX 104.9 FM and WXCX 105.7 FM). In 2002, he made the switch to TV, producing the 6:00 and 10:00 weeknight newscasts at WDIO-TV in Duluth. Ellis was honored to be mentioned in Dennis Anderson's autobiography. He later moved to KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he produced the 10:00 weeknight newscast. But after many long trips up I-35, Ellis decided the Northland was where he wanted to live, and came back to the Twin Ports in 2007 as part of the original FOX 21 News crew.
Ellis lives in Superior's East End. He enjoys camping, particularly at Cascade River State Park on the North Shore, and spending time at his family's cabin in Burnett County. Ellis has also reported on broadcasting in the Upper Midwest since 1996 at www.northpine.com/broadcast.
