DULUTH - It was a memorable day for everyone affiliated with the UMD campus and library Monday.
A dedication ceremony was held for Kathryn Martin to honor her support and commitment.
Martin was the first female chancellor in the University of Minnesota system.
She spent 15 years improving the university, but more prominently, the library.
Although she was encouraged to spend less and make a smaller building, Martin didn't take no for an answer.
The $26 million state-of-the art library was added to the university in 2000, and will now be known as the Kathryn A. Martin Library at UMD.
