“He’s one of the, by far one of the hardest working kids I’ve ever had,” said Floodwood basketball coach Chris Tommila.
All the hours of hard work in the gym paid off for Floodwood senior Riley Bernsdorf, who now owns the Polar Bears all time scoring mark.
“It was very humbling because Floodwood’s had a lot of good basketball players. Way back in the 90’s and 80’s. I mean just to be mentioned with those guys is pretty special,” said Riley Bernsdorf.
Not only will Riley be mentioned with the Floodwood greats, but will soon become one of them.
“He’s a competitor. He won’t quit. What he does out here shows his example of being a quiet leader, what he does is not quit and works hard,” said coach Tommila.
Bernsdorf is the quiet leader of the Floodwood team, who let’s his play do the talking for him.
“I like to lead by example and just show the younger kids how to play the game just keep working every day,” said Bernsdorf.
To become a top tier basketball player, Riley’s jump shot isn’t the only skill he’s worked on. He’s also become a student of the game.
“He’s learned the game really well over the past couple years. I think he got his first taste of varsity in 8th grade. And ever since then he’s gotten smarter and smarter. He knows the game really well and that’s helped him,” said coach Tommila.
Bernsdorf is not content with just breaking the school’s all time record. He wants to drive the Polar Bears to achieve more his senior season.
“Hopefully one of the best teams Floodwood’s ever had and just go as far as we can and just take it day by day and see what happens,” said Bernsdorf.
Passion and love for the game drives this lights out shooter to compete at the highest level he can every time laces up the sneakers and hits the court.
