Skiers, Snowboarders Compete In Meet

In the winter, snow bunnies like to hit the slopes as often as they can — not only for joy rides but for competitions and challenges.
In Bayfield, Mt. Ashwabay hosted a ski and snowboard meet Monday so kids could ski against each other and have fun.
The meet is a long tradition that has been going since the early 60s.
Participants in this year’s event competed in two races against high schools from across Wisconsin — including Rhinelander, Wausau and Rice Lake.
The snowboarders are judged on their time rather than tricks.
Three juniors from the local Ashland team took the lead in the competition.
Snowboarders either go big or go home and on this course. Going big can mean advancing to the next level.
There are three more races before the Wisconsin High School State Ski and Snowboard meet, which takes place in La Crosse, Feb. 14.Â
