Small Dogs Race as Part of Winterfest

Mini-Sled Dog Races Take Place in Canal Park

You may be excited to see the dogs at the John Beargrease Sled-Dog Marathon this weekend, but some little dogs competed this morning.

95 KQDS hosted their annual Mini-Sled Dog Races in Canal Park.

Part of this year’s Winterfest activities, the small dogs competed in two categories.

The first was 12 pounds and under, and the second was 12-22 pounds.

Families there had a fun time cheering on their pets.

“Marissa and Splinter have been doing the pulling thing for years. She hooks him up to her scooter and then he runs and she runs along behind,” said the Wittke family.

The Wittke family’s dog Destine took second in her weight class and Splinter took second in his heat.

The big winners this year were Special Agent Scully for the under 12 weight class, and Baya for the 12-22 weight class.

Kyle, an Italian Greyhound, won best in show.
