St. Louis Co. Conducts Homeless Count

Homeless Count in St. Louis County

In an effort to learn more about the homeless in St. Louis County a study is being conducted.

The St. Louis County’s Public Health and Human services Department is annual un-sheltered homeless count.

The goal is to find out how many homeless there are in the area because money and resources awarded to communities to fight homelessness are based on documented counts of the homeless.

“What we’re doing is to try and get a complete idea of what is happening in our community,” said Homeless Programs Planner for St. Louis County, Stacy Radosevich.

In 2014, the point in time count tallied 134 homeless un-sheltered individuals in St. Louis County and 54 of those people indicated they had serious mental health issues.

One new thing this year about the count was the effort to identify homeless veterans and provide the information gathered to link vet, a division of veterans affairs that provides support services to veterans.
