Barnum Man Hits Tree, Airlifted to Hospital

A 28-year-old Barnum man is fighting for his life in a Duluth hospital after he crashed into a tree.

Crews were dispatched at 1:10 a.m. Monday to the 3200 block of County Road 104 in Carlton County.

When they arrived on scene, authorities found the driver unconscious and not breathing.

They performed CPR and transported him to Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake.

He was later airlifted to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt and speed was a factor, according to Carlton County authorities.

They believe he hit a deer a few minutes before the crash.

At last report, the man was listed in critical condition.

Authorities said he may have suffered a medical issue, but that is still under investigation.
