Minnesota Suspends TurboTax Filings, Cites Security Concern
Minnesota has temporarily stopped accepting TurboTax filings by individual taxpayers because of security concerns.
Revenue Commissioner Cynthia Bauerly says her department learned Wednesday night that some Minnesota taxpayers found when they logged in to TurboTax, a return already had been filed.
Bauerly says that could indicate possible fraud, so Minnesota has blocked TurboTax filings from individuals for now.
Tax professionals can continue using other products made by the software company Intuit, including Lacerte, Intuit online and ProSeries.
Revenue officials say they have heard from two Minnesotans who had the problem.
As of Wednesday, about 267.000 Minnesotans had filed tax returns this season.
Starting at 8 a.m. Friday, Minnesota taxpayers with questions can call a TurboTax information line at 1-800-944-8596.
