Hundreds of key Great Lakes vessel captains and officers are gathering in Duluth this week.

They’re here for the International Ship Master’s Convention.

This year’s theme takes a look at green fuels, low emission engines and cleaner ballast water systems.

“The convention is held at a different lodge every year we have 16 different lodges on the Great Lakes, every year one lodge hosts it and this year is our turn,” said Joe Walters, the new President of the Ship Master’s Association.

The last time the local lodge brought the convention to Duluth-Superior was in 2001.
