Duluth Church Drive Collects More than 10K lbs. of Food!

Food will go to Union Gospel Mission Pantry

In a FOX 21 follow up a local church is bursting with food after a massive effort to help out a Twin Ports nonprofit.

Lakeview Covenant Church has food on their pulpit, in their halls and everywhere else they can fit it.

It comes after the church held a food drive for Union Gospel Mission which has run out of food this winter.

After Sunday services the entire congregation entered Super One grocery stores buying food to fill their pantry.

More than 10,000 pounds worth was collected.

“I think this is a modern day feeding of the masses miracle,” Lakeview Community Church Lead Pastor Eric Bain said. “We had no idea it would be this much food. I think it says that when there’s a genuine need and people are made aware and inspired they’ll take action. People want to take a part in helping to create greater community in Duluth and feed people.”

The food will be hauled off to Union Gospel Mission this Sunday.

The public is invited to the services at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m..
