About 1,000 people jumped into Lake Superior Saturday afternoon.
Many Special Olympic athletes were down at the plunge site getting to meet the plungers.
Event coordinators understand how important those interactions are, as it’s not until then that most jumpers “get it.”
“The opportunity to meet the athletes, I think really makes it real for the people that are down there,” said Duluth Police Officer Mike Thamm. “Everybody says it’s a good cause, but now they have an idea what that really means.”
Plungers in Duluth raised $160,000 so far. That number will continue to grow in the next month as donations are still being met by corporate sponsors.
