Voting Extend for Contest Involving Grand Marais

Grand Marais in the Lead for "America's Coolest Small Towns 2015"

A Lake Superior harbor village beloved for its scenery, tasty eats and quirky artistic vibe – is currently #1 in the Budget Travel Magazine “America’s Coolest Small Towns 2015” contest.

Now voting has been extended through March 4 and people can vote once a day at the Budget Travel website.

“I’m surprised Grand Marais took the lead as fast as it did, but I’m not that surprised,” commented Linda Kratt, Executive Director of Visit Cook County. “Grand Marais visitors and residents know it’s a special place.”

That said, with regional pride at stake, the competition remains fierce.

While Grand Marais holds the lead with 27.3% of the vote, Chincoteague, Virginia is nipping at its heels with 23.8%.

Other contenders range from Hillsborough, North Carolina to Crested Butte, Colorado to Pismo Beach, California.

Kratt urged anyone who loves Grand Marais to vote “early and often.” “This is our chance to ensure Grand Marais is recognized nationally for the beautiful, one-of-a-kind place it truly is.”
