UMD students have made it their goal to put a hat on the head of every child battling cancer.
For every hat sold, Love Your Melon donates another one to a sick child.
Last November, students sold 300 hats, and Wednesday, 100 of those hats were donated to Essentia Health St. Mary’s for cancer patients and their families to enjoy.
“It really warms my heart, and our heads, too, just that people are out there, thinking about kids with cancer and making a difference,” said Christi Slattengren, mother of Cade Slattengren who has been battling Leukemia since July.
Along with their hats, UMD students were dressed in superhero costumes and tutus.
