For a small town, Grand Marais is receiving some national attention.
The town has been nominated to compete for the title of “America’s Coolest Small Town” 2015.
Beautiful scenery, tasty food and an artistic vibe are some of the characteristics which have the town leading in the contest.
But, what is it that is making this Lake Superior Harbor Village a one of a kind place to be?
This charming, friendly town is bursting with authentic personalities.
Greg Wright, Executive Director of North Woods Folks School, says the tight knit community is the reason why he loves the town so much.
“They come to a place like Grand Marais which is beautiful, and inspiring,” Wright said.
When folks visit they realize it’s more than just the people but, also the sense of passion and adventures available in the town that makes this place so special.
“Getting out into the North on ski trails, beautiful lakes on bike trails, hiking trails. That’s why I love Grand Marais,”Wright added.
Nestled between the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior it’s easy to see how born residents and visitors get inspired here.
With just opening her own brewing company, Cara Sporn, is among those proud to live in Grand Marais.
“I think we have such an eclectic community up here and we have such a great variety of different businesses that are in the area,” Sporn said.
This town has a certain something most places don’t have.
Great shops, food, unique history, breathtaking location, art galleries, and more all contribute to their title.
“We bring the North alive,” said Wright.
Voting began over a month ago and the clock is still ticking.
The contest ends at midnight on February 25th and residents are encouraging folks to vote early and vote often.
