A UMD student is training to be the first person to ever circumnavigate Lake Superior on a stand up paddle board.

This expedition will take Jared Muinch approximately three months to complete.

He will be going solo on his 1,200 mile excursion.

He’s practiced the last three summers to gear up for the big send off.

Munch says it’s a great way to spend his last summer as a college student.

“I really want to show people how much Lake Superior has to offer.  I’m really just stepping outside of my comfort zone a little bit and and getting out to explore.”

He also hope to promote leading an adventurous and healthy life.

“There is a lot of opportunity in Duluth.  There are a lot of people who are more than willing to teach it.  So, getting out there and trying isn’t as scary as it might sound once you look at the options that are locally available.”
