Apostle Island Ice Caves Closing for the Season

More than 35,800 Visit Apostle Islands Ice Caves During Short Season

The ice caves in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore are closing for the season.

Officials says they will close at 7 p.m. Monday.

Very strong winds are predicted to start Monday night and temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s will greatly increase the melting and falling of ice formations.

Even though it was a short season 5,697 people visited the caves this past weekend bringing the total number of visitors to 35,827.

This year park officials also started charging a $5 fee to cover costs.
