Snowmobile & Logging Truck Involved in Crash in Cass County

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:53 AM, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a snowmobile crash involving a logging truck on the Goose Lake Trail in Hiram Township, rural Hackensack MN.

Deputies and Responders arrived and found that a snowmobile, travelling north on the Goose Lake Trail, attempted to move to the side of the trail to avoid a logging truck that was southbound on the trail.

The snowmobile rode up on an embankment on the side of the trail causing the machine to start to tip on its side onto the trail.

The operator attempted to use his legs to keep the machine upright when he was struck by the rear wheels of the empty trailer the semi was pulling.

The driver of the snowmobile, Dean Husfeldt, age 51, of Andover Minnesota was transported via LifeLink helicopter to North Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi, Bruce Pangerl, age 57, of Backus MN was not injured.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by members of the Hackensack Fire and Rescue, North Memorial Ambulance and LifeLink III.
