Minnesota’s Class A State Basketball Tournament starts Thursday, without Lakeview christian Academy.
The Lions were eliminated by 7A champion Fond du Lac Ojibwe in the section semis.
However, there’s good news for Lakeview star senior Bjorn Broman, who’s one of five finalists for the Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball award.
The Division I Winthrop University-bound Broman averaged close to 50 points a game as he scored 1,384 points this season, breaking his older brother Anders’ state record.
Bjorn also joined Anders as two of three 4,000 point scorers ever in Minnesota.
The older Broman was also a Mr. Basketball finalist in 2013. The last Mr. Basketball from the Northland was Duluth East’s Rick Rickert in 2001.
This year’s other finalists are Sacar Anim and Jarvis Johnson (DeLaSalle); JT Gibson (Champlin Park); and Marshawn Wilson (Hill-Murray).
The Mr. Basketball award will be presented after the State Tournament.
