St. Louis County medical examiner Thomas Uncini has announced he’ll be stepping down as chief medical examiner.
Tuesday, the St. Louis County Board voted to extend his contract through the end of June.
This announcement, comes in the wake of two autopsy controversies involving Uncini and Native American tribes.
The 58-year-old has been chief medical examiner for St. Louis County since 1998.
“In terms of the service that he’s provided, it’s sad to see him go, because he really has been, I’d argue, a fantastic chief me and really good to work with,” said St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman.
Uncini has expressed interest to continue working as an assistant medical examiner.
