Arrests Made in Connection to Multiple Robberies in Northern WI

Two Arrested in Connection to Robberies in Northern WI

On Wednesday March 11, at about 2 p.m. a deputy from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department made a traffic stop on a suspect vehicle in several armed robberies that had occurred in the city of Hayward, the city of Rice Lake and the city of Ashland.

Sawyer County was assisted by officers from the city of Hayward Police Department, and a 26 year old suspect from Lac Du Flambeau and 19 year old suspect from Hayward were arrested.

Investigators from the city of Hayward and Rice Lake Police Departments subsequently interviewed the two and police say both admitted to involvement in the robbery at the Dairy Queen in Rice Lake on Thursday March 5th and the 26 year old admitted to the armed robbery at the Flat Creek Inn and Suites in the city of Hayward on Tuesday March 10th.

The hammer used in the robbery in Rice Lake and a black colored facsimile firearm used in the Hayward robbery have been recovered.

Through cooperation and information sharing between agencies the Rice Lake Police Department, the Ashland Police Department and the city of Hayward Police Department were able to determine that 26 year old is also a suspect in the Ashland robbery, an attempted robbery in Iron River and a robbery in Superior.

He is currently being held in the Sawyer County Jail on a $20,000 cash bond and the other is being held in the Barron County Jail pending formal charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
