Fire Displaces Family, Kills Pets

Nearly a dozen fire departments responded to a house fire Saturday evening in Mountain Iron.

The first was reported just after 7:30pm by a neighbor.

When the first fire crews arrived there were flames shooting from the windows of the home.

The homeowners and their children were not home at the time.

Their two dogs were killed in the blaze as firefighters were unable to enter the home to save the pets.

Low water pressure hampered firefighting efforts and local departments were called to furnish water tankers.

Eventually, crews brought in an excavator and demolished the structure.
