When you think back to what you wore to prom it likely looks very different than what teens are wearing today.
The first day of spring means that many high school girls are already on the hunt for that perfect prom dress.
“We don’t want them to have to travel to Minneapolis or Chicago to find those fashion trends,” said Rhonda Grussendorf-Tomlin, owner of Rhonda’s Always and Forever Bridal House.
It’s her job to make sure the dresses in her shop are what girls in the Twin Ports are looking for.
“The high-lows are really popular,” Grussendorf-Tomiln said. “The short fun flirty dresses are popular.”
Slim-fit, rhinestone-filled, open-back pageant style dresses are this year’s top pick.
“Everyone wants to feel as if they’ve got that crown on their head,” said Grussendorf-Tomiln.
The price tag for a Mrs. USA style pageant dress may shock you.
Today girls are spending upwards near $700 on a dress they’ll wear once.
“Some of those dresses are the price of some of my wedding dresses,” explained Grussendorf-Tomlin.
As for the guys, the classic black tux is being taken over by a whole new shade.
“Grey is hot,” said Gurssendorf-Tomlin. “It’s the hottest color right now and the slim fit.”
Once you find that dream dress that you’ll wear walking down Grand March feeling confident and beautiful is all that matters at the end of the night.
“You just see memories being made. That’s the best part of my job,” Gurssendorf-Tomlin smiled.
