Annoyed, angry, and violated are some of the feelings Duluthians have after vandals shot out 40-plus car windows Monday night.

“People were very upset,” said Duluth Police Lt. Jeff Kazel. “I know I would be if that happened to my car.”

Police are on the hunt for the person or people who took a BB gun and shot out those windows in West Duluth and Proctor.

Glass from broken car windows now covers the streets of a handful of Duluth neighborhoods including a block in Morgan Park which neighbors say is typically a quiet place.

“Very upset,” said 25-year Morgan Park resident, Birdie Bennett. “I was in tears this morning.”

Police woke her up at 5:30 a.m. Monday by pounding on her front door.

Duluth police say a broken window is something they see pretty often, but 40 in one night is what they call extensive and unusual.

“It’s a little bit more than what we would normally see but we see these types of calls, but not to this extent,” said Lt. Kazel.

The damage spread from the 4000 block of West 8th Street, to Morgan Park, and even into parts of Proctor.

With the crimes so widespread, police said it is difficult to track down suspects.

When they do, the person or people will likely be handed a felony.

“It takes up a lot of time, but it’s a huge issue for the public,” said Lt. Kazel. “I mean, this is somebody’s property that’s now damage that they’re going to have to pay for out of their pocket.”

Bennett said nobody is able to come out and fix her car until Wednesday afternoon, and it’ll cost her about $150 to replace.

If you have any information about the vandalism, police are asking you to call 911.
