A man who helped put Duluth on the map in the boxing ring is asking for your help so he can visit his native home of Haiti.

The Haitian Temptation Al Sands has a page for his trip back home.

Sands was adopted from Haiti by a single mom when he was an infant and has never been back.

As a successful boxer he hopes to learn about the culture he came from and give back as much as he can.

“So I tell the kids to just really explore who they are and I’m going to do that for myself as I have through my sober lifestyle,” said Al Sands. “I want to take that to the next level and really return to my home country absorb my own culture.”

Sands is $1000 short of his $2000 goal.

His original goal was $10,000 which is enough to install a clean water well in a community.

He hopes to make the trip this summer and stay for an entire month.
