Doctors: Flu Season Worst in Recent Memory
More than 3,600 Minnesotans Hospitalized for Flu Symptoms

If you didn’t get the flu this year consider yourself lucky.
Now that the season is winding down doctors say this year’s virus was the worst they’ve seen in five years.
More than 3,600 Minnesotans were hospitalized, and a handful of schools were forced to close.
“It really peaked this year in December,” said Dr. Andrew Thompson, an infectious disease specialist at St. Luke’s Hospital. “There were huge outbreaks in schools and nursing homes right around the holidays just before Christmas since that time it’s tapered off pretty significantly.”
Doctors believe the reason this year was so bad is because the virus mutated and the vaccine wasn’t as effective.
