TWO HARBORS, Minn. – After eight years of service Lake County Sheriff’s trail sniffing dog has retired.

Katie the Bloodhound was donated to the sheriff’s office as a puppy.

It wasn’t long after and she began using her nose to sniff out crime.

While she’s still full of life, her hip dysplasia forced her to retire.

“We got her in January 2007 and we started training in March of 2007. She had her first criminal trail in July of 2007 and then in October of 2007, she found a three year-old boy that was missing,” said Katie’s owner Undersheriff Steve Van Kekerix.

The sheriff’s office isn’t sure when or if they will get another dog.
