The sun is shining and the ice is off the lake which means Sky Harbor Airport on Park Point is on the verge of welcoming Sea Planes in for the summer.

The docks will be installed within the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, airport officials are excited they’re ahead of schedule.

“Seeing the people flying again is exciting.  Last year, we had a very short season with the cold wind and rain and ice being out late,” said Sky Harbor Airport’s Manager, Brian Madsen.

The airport is unique in that it allows custom points of entry into the U.S. from Canada.

So, they see a wide variety of people flying in.

“Most of them are for training.  We do get some business and then of course you have people flying in just to visit the Duluth area,” Madsen said.

Last year, planes weren’t flying until June.
